Opening at Carpenters Workshop Gallery in London, Blue Weather brings together new works by Dubourg in bronze, wood and aluminium. The exhibition continues his interest in transforming familiar objects and materials into something unexpected.

Dubourg’s practice sits between collectible design, sculpture and architecture. He often takes recognisable functional forms and changes their structure, scale or position, introducing a sense of movement into otherwise static objects. In works such as Vent Sur La Table, bronze appears to twist and rise from the table, while Commode à Nouvelle Zélandeturns a familiar piece of furniture into an unstable arrangement of glasses and bottles. Plancher à Nouvelle Zélandesimilarly makes shelves appear to break away from the wall.

These shifts give Dubourg’s work a surreal quality, while his approach remains rooted in traditional craftsmanship and a precise attention to materials and making. His new works continue this balance between function and sculpture, structure and movement.

Bronze is particularly important in Blue Weather. Works including Organic Table, Himself 1 and Himself 4 contrast the force of molten metal with the controlled finish of the final objects. Movingui wood structures support the bronze, creating a tension between the solidity of the material and the movement within its forms.

The exhibition brings together Dubourg’s interest in architecture, geometry and transformation, using familiar objects as a starting point for something less predictable.
